The African American Men's Health & Social Life Study is an investigation of African American men's health beliefs, behaviors, and social experiences. African American men are at risk for heart disease, diabetes, and other preventable health conditions. In addition, African American men are less likely to go to the doctor when sick. This study seeks to gain a better understanding of men's use of health services, as well as factors that contribute to their health. Study participants must be at least 18 years old. Eligible paricipants receive a $25 gift card.

 As same gender loving persons we sometimes consider sexuality and spirituality to be mutually exclusive. At times this perceived split is at the root of shame and/or irresponsibility among some in the LGBT community. This workshop explores the ways in which sexuality is a sacred gift from the Creator which is to be celebrated. We will discuss how we honor that gift in ourselves and others in life enhancing ways including sexual responsibility.

11:30am - 12:30pm  - We are the ones we've been waiting for: fighting HIV/AIDS among Black gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men

The HIV/AIDS epidemic in the United States continues to have the most severe impact on communities of Black gay/bisexual/same gender loving men. This workshop will update participants on the current state of HIV/AIDS among Black gay/bi male communities in the United States broadly and in North Carolina specifically. This discussion will begin with a brief review of basic facts related to HIV transmission, prevention and treatment. The bulk of the workshop discussion will focus on the development of strategies for reducing the spread of HIV among Black gay and bisexual men.

4:00pm - 5:00pm Building Sustainable Communities among Black Gay/Bisexual MSM in North Carolina

This workshop will invite participants to think about how the momentum generated by Triangle Black Pride can be funneled into the development of a sustainable, vibrant Black gay and bisexual men’s community in North Carolina.  How do we create community in spaces that transcend nightclubs and websites?  We will engage in dialogue on topics including online dating, sexual health, and spirituality and will also begin planning events that will help sustain community in the months following pride.
